How to Serve and Store Cheese

Updated: Sep 16, 2018

You have an important occasion in which cheese features as the main appetizer. How do you serve it so that your guests get a feel of its great taste? There are a few things you may want to consider as you prepare the cheese for serving your guests.

First, a good tasting cheese is that which includes the interior as well as the rind. Therefore, cut the cheese according to its form. By all means, avoid serving cheese cubes as the once from the center will taste different from that from the rind.

“Ideally, the cheese should be at room temperature at the time of serving it.”

What Temperature Should Cheese Be Served At?

It is not advisable to serve cheese cold since that prevents all the natural fragrances and flavors from coming to life. Ideally, the cheese should be at room temperature at the time of serving it.

How Long Should I Get The Cheese Out Of The Fridge Before Serving?

Experts recommend that your cheese should be removed from the bridge for between 30 minutes and 1 hour before serving. That’s to allow it to come to room temperature before serving. Once it’s ready, cut only enough cheese for use at that particular time and return the rest to the refrigerator.

How to Store Cheese?

Cheese is better preserved when stored in its original packaging, especially if it comes whole. All the other types of cheese are better off wrapped with wax paper followed by aluminum foil. If you bought the cheese in plastic wrappers, put it into the wax paper before storing it. Plastic wrappers never allow the cheese to breathe thus altering its flavor inside as well as the rind. Remember to store your farm cheese in an aluminum foil.

The packaging should essentially be sealed airtight to stop the cheese from drying. Never remove the rind since that may interfere with the flavor inside. Once you have wrapped the cheese in the right way, put it in a sealed plastic container and put it in the fridge.
